In lieu of gifts I'm asking for help covering the cost of giving birth at home drug and surgery free. The midwife bill will be just short of $4,000 and my Blue Cross HMO will not cover any of it. You would think it would be in their best interest when you consider some of the home birth statistics, not to mention the amount of money hospitals are making from the "birth industry" as they call it. Then again insurance and drug companies are the only ones happy with our current healthcare system, so maybe I should be surprised.

Ranting aside we have two of the most incredible midwives and I couldn't imagine going through this without them. They have been an incredible comfort to us and are worth every penny.
